The trees around our Home were 80 to 100 feet tall. They were a constant danger and cause some serious destruction during the Dec 08 Ice Storms in Westford, MA.

Look closely, you can see that one of the trees was leaning over our home. A 15' section of tree weighs roughly 1,000 pounds. If that were to fall, and we were in our living room, we'd be crushed!

So the way it works is, the crane carries Bill to the top, there Bill lets the tree support his weight, and connects the crane to the Tree. Then Bill ties off and rappels down the tree about 20-30'. At this point, he connects to the tree using boot spikes and a belt, then he starts up his chain saw (which he's had connected to him the entire time) and cuts through that SOB like a hot knife through butter.

After the crane brings the section of tree to the street, the ground tree goes to work on it, by quickly removing limbs.

Once the Ground Team has removed a limb, it gets tossed into this thing, which just eviscerates anything that comes into contact with it.
